Cemeteries are normally a place where you can visit deceased family and friends, but after dark they can become something very creepy. Some may even be rumored to be haunted. However you think of cemeteries, here’s 11 creepy cemeteries in and around Kansas City for you to enjoy while I stay at home where it’s safe. You go on ahead!
1. Sheffield Cemetery - 6200 Wilson Avenue, Kansas City, MO
The graves here at this Jewish cemetery are many, and the way they're so close together makes your mind think there could be something lurking behind them.
2. Quindaro Cemetery - 3400 Parallel Parkway, Kansas City, KS
This cemetery has all sorts of grave shapes, and you won't always expect the next one you see. Was that a pillar, or someone lurking?
3. Union Cemetery - 227 E 28 Terrace, Kansas City, MO
This is the resting place of Civil War soldiers, so the chance of a lingering spirit is higher than your normal cemetery. Many of the headstones are too old to be read properly, so who knows who still might be hanging around?
4. Olathe Memorial Cemetery - 738 N Chestnut Street, Olathe, KS
In the fall, this cemetery looks beautiful... that is, until the sun goes down. Then, the beauty turns into something a little more sinister and creepy. What spirits might you find here?
5. Mt St Mary's Cemetery - 2201 Cleveland Avenue, Kansas City, MO
This cemetery is filled with crosses and many different shapes and sizes of headstones. If anything is creepy, it's lack of symmetry! Just kidding, but the bigger the headstone, the more likely something is to be hiding behind it!
6. Memorial Park Cemetery - 8251 Hillcrest Road, Kansas City, MO
A statue of the world lives here at Memorial Park, and that's not nearly as creepy as the sloping hill during a foggy night. Eek!
7. Elmwood Cemetery - 4900 E Truman Road, Kansas City, MO
In 1872, this historic cemetery was created, which means there's plenty of graves hanging around to creep you out. The oldest burial here was in 1840, so there's plenty of old souls that might be wandering about.
8. Resurrection Cemetery - 5001 NE Cookingham Drive, Kansas City, MO
If the name of this cemetery isn't creepy enough, maybe the graves will change your mind? Some of the people-like statues look a little too human after dark.
9. Forest Hill Cavalry Cemetery - 6901 Troost Avenue, Kansas City, MO
The gates at the front and the rows of short graves leave plenty of space for creepy shadows and rolling fog on a cool morning. Creepy!
10. Mount Moriah Cemetery - 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, MO
Graves sitting idly under the trees become a little more creepy after dark, when shapes are blurry and you hear things differently. It's possible that sometimes things are just scarier in the dark, though maybe there really are spirits hanging around these cemeteries. What do you think?
11. Mt. Olivet Catholic Cemetery - 7601 Blue Ridge Boulevard, Raytown, MO
This last cemetery isn't as scary as some of the others, but the trees that hang over the grounds make it very dark, and they keep the moon from shining through many nights.
