Don’t let the weather stop you from getting outside and enjoying what the Kansas City area has to offer. I’m not recommending that you try and get lost, or bike in the mud, but don’t be afraid of a less-than-sunny day. As long as they are safe, head to any of these 11 beautiful bike trails any time of the year.
1. Shawnee Mission Park — Shawnee, Kansas
Shawnee Mission Park is a pretty big park, with multiple bike trails of different difficulties. The park is well maintained, and the scenery is gorgeous at any time of day. Plus, it's always nice to bike where you can camp if you happen to love the place.
2. Swope Park Mountain Bike Trail — Kansas City, KS
Rated as a moderate level trail, this 4.6-mile loop won't take you too long to complete on your bike. I wouldn't advise using it if it had rained recently, due to the rocky and potentially muddy surfaces through some areas of the trail.
3. Lake Remembrance Park Loop — Blue Springs, Missouri
Even smaller is this 2.7-mile loop through the scenic Lake Remembrance Park. It circles the lake, offering great scenery while you spend (on average) about half an hour riding.
4. Mt. Marty Park Trail — Kansas City, Kansas
Another easy trail is the 1.7-mile loop at Mt Marty Park that offers a charming forested setting for your biking adventure. Plus, who wouldn't want to bike through such a beautiful park?
5. Blue River Parkway and Minor Park Trail — Kansas City, Missouri
One of the KC area's most popular parks, Minor Park offers a beautiful trail that you can either hike or bike through. It's an easy 5.4-mile trail that features wildflowers when they're in bloom and a beautiful waterside view in all seasons.
6. Santa Fe Commons Park: Indian Creek Bike and Hike Trail — Overland Park, Kansas
This trail is quite a bit longer, coming in at a 23-mile long stretch, but filled to the brim with beauty. The nearby water provides a calming noise to soothe you as you bike through the foliage.
7. Roanoke Park Trails — Kansas City, Missouri
Another great trail for bikes is the easy 2.4-mile "out and back" at Roanoke Park. It's a beautiful piece of land, but the slopes can be a little tricky if you're not used to the bike yet.
8. William Landahl Park Trail — Grain Valley, Missouri
This "moderate" level trail is a 4-mile loop and brings you through rocky areas, woods, and wide open grasses. The rock formations along the trail are worth the visit, even if you don't want to bike here.
9. James A. Reed Wildlife Memorial Area Trail — Greenwood, Missouri
If you can't tell by this stunning view, this lakeside trail is simply gorgeous. The ride around it is easy to do and is about 8.7 miles of well-kept pathway.
10. Longview Lake Park Trail — Lees Summit, Missouri
This beautiful lake trail is pretty easy, even at almost 12 miles long. It's well maintained and offers the best experience to bikers — unless you have a friend to chat with on your walk.
11. Wyandotte County Lake Park Loop Trail — Kansas City, Kansas
This amazing lake comes with a "moderate" level loop just over 9 miles long. It's also horse-friendly if your bike isn't as fun as your equine friend.
