A day at Whitecliff Park in St. Louis offers so much promise, whether you plan to have a leisurely picnic or follow the lone hiking trail that leads straight to an old quarry.
You'll find plenty to do at Whitecliff Park each season. Summer is particularly popular as Missourians flock to the aquatic center to stay cool.
Tallying just 85 acres, the cozy St. Louis-area park has been a local favorite since 1971 when the local Alderman Board decided to preserve the abandoned quarry, making it a highlight of Whitecliff Park.
Snagging an easy rating from hikers, the 1.5-mile scenic trail will lead you through a lush wooden area, over a wooden footbridge, and to the quarry itself.
While you might be lucky enough to cross paths with local wildlife, including deer, be prepared for a few outdoor nuisances - bugs, muddy spots, and some overgrown spots.
