A private park that's open to the public, Pinnacles Youth Park in Boone County is small, tallying just 70 acres. Still, it's packed with natural beauty.
The park itself boasts a unique history dating back to 1965 when it was gifted to the county's youth. Since then it's been a popular day spot for visitors from all over.
However, only youth groups are permitted to camp overnight at this cozy park.

The best way to get acquainted with this unique destination, about 15 minutes from Columbia, is to set off on the short and sweet Pinnacles Youth Park Summit Loop Trail.
Clocking in at just .08 of a mile, the scenic trail earns a moderate rating, mostly because the trail is steep and narrow. Wear sturdy shoes, preferably those that do well when climbing rocks.
If you're a fan of scrambling, you'll quickly discover this trail is a piece of paradise. Just take precautions as you climb, as there are some steep dropoffs.
