Happy Birthday, Hannibal! Who’s up for a little celebration? Or, better yet, an epic year-long celebration? After all, it isn’t every year that a Missouri town celebrates its 200th birthday. In honor of Hannibal’s bicentennial, the town is holding an epic celebration with events planned throughout the year, making this charming town of just under 18,000 an ideal travel destination.
Join the enchanting town of Hannibal as it celebrates its bicentennial throughout 2019 with ongoing exhibits and individual events.
Founded in 1819 by Moses Bates, Hannibal gained worldwide fame in Mark Twain's famous novels The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn.
Throughout the year, both Hannibal and local businesses will host numerous ongoing events that celebrate the town's rich history. Visit the Huck Finn Freedom Center, for example, to explore the Jim's Journey exhibit.
Of course, famous Missourian and author Mark Twain plays a key role in the bicentennial celebration with ongoing exhibits at the Mark Twain Boyhood Home & Museum and...
And, the town will also honor its hometown heroes, the men and women who have served the United States throughout the decades. Two hundred banners, each with the name and photo of one of those heroes, will be displayed throughout Hannibal.
Banners will be displayed from May 24 through November 12, 2019.
Other events planned throughout the year include the 9th Annual Hannibal History Trivia Night on March 1 and the Big River Steampunk Faire on March 30-31, 2019.
And, following tradition, Hannibal will transform into a winter wonderland during the Christmas season, highlighted by the Christmas Living Windows, set for Saturday, December 14, 2019.
