With the holidays just around the corner, gift-giving and holiday parties will be gobbling up most of our paychecks. But who says you need to charge everything on the card to have a good time? From breweries to museums, state parks to light shows, here are a few of my favorite free attractions in Missouri.
1. Visit the Liberty Memorial.
Though you do have to pay a fee for the World War I Museum, you can still check out the outdoor memorial for free. As a bonus, this is one of the best places to catch a glimpse of the beautiful Kansas City skyline. Feel free to take some Instagram-worthy photos while you're there.
Address:
2 Memorial Dr.
Kansas City, MO 64108
2. Hang out with the animals at the zoo.
Entry into the St. Louis Zoo is free and guests can expect to see up to 5,000 animals from 700 different species.
Address:
1 Government Dr.
St. Louis, MO 63110
3. Hike and swim at Johnson's Shut-Ins State Park.
Vanessa Righeimer/Only In Missouri
Take a dip into the crystal clear waters on a hot day or enjoy an easy hike on a crisp, fall day at this majestic state park.
Address:
148 Taum Sauk Trail
Middle Brook, MO 63656
4. Watch the Branson Landing light show
This $7.5 million spectacular water attraction features the first-ever merging of water, fire, light and music. The performances take place everyday starting at noon.
Address:
100 Branson Landing Blvd.
Branson, MO 65616
5. Spend a day exploring Forest Park.
While Forest Park may be a familiar attraction to St. Louis residents, I don't think it's given enough credit regionally. This stunning park is actually larger than Central Park In New York City, and in my opinion, way better.
Address:
5595 Grand Dr.
St. Louis, MO 63112
6. Take a tour of the Boulevard Brewing Company.
Tours at the Boulevard Brewing Company are free, but you have to reserve a ticket at the brewery beforehand. It's first come, first served, so make sure you get there early before it fills up.
Address:
2501 Southwest Blvd. Kansas City, MO 64108
7. Look at world-class art at the Saint Louis Art Museum.
This world-renowned art museum constantly updates its exhibits, so you'll never get bored. With the amount of high-praised art submissions the museum receives, it should be a crime that this place is free! But hey, I'm more than okay with that.
Address:
1 Fine Arts Dr.
St. Louis, MO 63110
8. Tantalize your taste buds with a free wine tasting.
Wine tastings are free at Pirtle Winery in Weston. However, I can't promise that you won't want to buy a whole glass or bottle after you fall in love with one of their flavors.
Address:
502 Spring St. Weston, MO 64098
9. Create arts and crafts with the whole family.
Take the kiddos to Kaleidoscope at Hallmark for some family fun and free arts and crafts sessions.
Address:
2450 Grand Blvd.
Kansas City, MO 64108
9. Tour Mother's Brewing Company and enjoy free samples.
Another popular brewing company, Mother's. Enjoy a complimentary tour and a free sample or two along the way.
Address:
215 S Grant Ave. Springfield, MO 65806
10. Brush up on your history at the Missouri History Museum.
This museum is dedicated to preserving the history of St. Louis and Missouri. Entry is free and there are always tours going on. You'll definitely learn something new about your home state with each visit.
Address:
5700 Lindell Blvd.
11. Explore castle ruins and hike scenic trails.
Head over to the beautiful Ha Ha Tonka State Park which features old castle ruins and 14 unique hiking trails.
Address:
