Let's kick off this delicious day trip (or overnight trip) at Strange Donuts, where you'll discover an assortment of traditional and, well, strange donuts. Choose from such traditional donuts as glazed and jelly-filled. Or, go for something a little bolder, like the gooey butter, campfire, and blueberry cheesecake. (Strange Donuts also makes special Stranger donuts on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.)
After our scrumptiously strange visit to Strange Donuts, we'll head to Old Town Donuts in St. Peters, for an old-fashioned experience. Browse the menu that's brimming with all the classics - glazed, plain cake, powdered sugar, and old-fashioned. Or, try something a little bolder, such as the devil's food, peanut cake, or lemon-filled. Old Town Donuts also sells a variety of larges pastries like apple strudel.
Next up: Another classic donut shop that sells made-from-scratch donuts. Harold's Doughnuts even delivers to select areas. So, order some of the old favorites. Or, go for something a little sweeter. Cranberry orange jam, creme de la cherry, and chocolate yeast raised doughnuts are among your choices.
Feel like royalty when you visit one of Lamar's Donuts in Kansas City. The popular donut shop boasts a generous menu that includes such favorites as glazed, double chocolate, apple spice cake, and cinnamon sugar raised donuts. Don't forget to take a peek at the buttermilk bars, cinnamon twists, cinnamon rolls, knots, and Lamar's Bars.
Off we go to...Hurt's Donuts in Springfield. But, be forewarned, you're in for quite a challenge. The donut shop boasts a variety of more than 70 types of donuts. Pretty impressive, huh? So, what'll you have? How about cosmic brownie, fruity pebbles, maple bacon, or cotton candy? Or, one of the daily flavors which change each day?
On a sugar rush? Well, we're not done yet. Next, we're heading to St. George's Donuts in Springfield. Of course, you can order traditional donuts. Or, try the donut holes, large donuts, or specialty donuts. Browse the menu that's bursting with such delicious options as red velvet cake, strawberry sprinkle, and orange glazed.
And...we're off to St. Louis, right near where our delightfully delicious day trip began. Our grand finale takes us to World's Fair Donuts, a cozy mom and pop shop where you'll have to pay with cash. Order such favorites as cake, glazed with whipped cream, and custard.
