We all need a little bit of natural beauty in our lives. Fortunately, Missouri’s bursting with natural beauty – from its thousands of caves to gushing waterfalls. You’ll also find hidden gems tucked in all corners of the state. Devil’s Honeycomb, a beautiful natural gem, is definitely a bucket list-worthy, otherworldly destination in Missouri.
Perched atop the highest point of Hughes Mountain, in Irondale, Devil's Honeycomb is a natural wonder you really have to see and to experience to believe.
Devil's Honeycomb is a series of Precambrian rock outcrops that date back more than 1.5 billion years. To reach the geological wonder, you'll hike the Devil's Honeycomb Trail.
The trail spans just over 1.5 miles and boasts such scenery as wildflowers, glades, and forested areas. Some hikers rate the trail as easy while others consider it moderate.
Slip on a pair of sturdy hiking boots or shoes, because you'll have to deal with some rocky terrain, including loose rocks and roots sticking out of the ground.
Once you make it through the wooded area, you'll be out in the open. That means you may get pretty hot on a sunny day, so don't forget your sunscreen and bottled water.
Keep an eye out for local wildlife on your hike. You might run across grasshoppers and a variety of lizards. Listen for the melody of the prairie warblers, too.
