Those of us who are animal lovers know that all animals – whether pets, farm animals, or wild animals – deserve to be treated with love and respect. Unfortunately, far too many animals suffer from abuse, neglect, and abandonment. Those who are lucky find a lifelong safe haven, to heal and to live out their lives, at sanctuaries. This tiger sanctuary in Missouri, for example, offers a safe, nurturing place to live for big cats.
Tours of Crown Ridge Tiger Sanctuary is currently closed to visitors to Covid-19.
Crown Ridge Tiger Sanctuary, in Ste. Genevieve, offers a safe haven, enriching activities, a forever home, and - perhaps most important of all - a voice for formerly abused, neglected, and abandoned tigers.
Following the motto "Giving Animals A Voice," the tiger sanctuary helps bring awareness to the plight of tigers through sanctuary tours, hosted events, and off-site presentations.
Accredited by the Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries, Crown Ridge Tiger Sanctuary welcomes visitors to tour its grounds and to meet some of its residents.
Gracie, for example, was rescued from Exotic Animal Paradise, in Springfield, along with other members of her family. Today, she's nearly blind in both eyes but is thriving at the sanctuary.
Izzy, on the other hand, spent his early years being held and pet in what's commonly known as "cub petting." When he grew out of the cub stage, he was destined to be euthanized until Crown Ridge Tiger Sanctuary saved him.
You'll meet some of the residents when you visit the tiger sanctuary, which offers three types of tours - the General Tour, the Early Bird Tour, and the VIP Tour. General tours, which require a reservation, last 45 minutes.
Watch the tigers start their day on the Early Bird Tour. The VIP tour takes 1.5 hours and provides the most in-depth experience, including watching tiger feedings and a video of life at the sanctuary.
If you can't make it to the sanctuary, you can still get involved. You can sponsor a tiger annually, for example, for anywhere from $25 to $500. The sanctuary also accepts monetary and meat donations.
