Springfield is Missouri’s most religious city, according to the Barna Group. On doomsday, you want to make sure you’re in the best possible standing with the man upstairs, so Springfield might be your best bet. Head for church (and ask for any forgiveness you might need).

How about some fried chicken for your doomsday dinner? Tyson has chicken hatcheries, growout facilities, feed mills and rendering plants in both towns. Seems like it would be a great place to be if you’re on a paleo diet during doomsday.

Caves are great for doomsday - they provide shelter (and sometimes water) and are easily defended from zombies or people who want to take your food. Missouri has thousands of caves across the state, but Onondaga Cave might be a good choice. Don’t forget your jacket, though...caves are chilly and you don’t want to be freezing during this traumatic time.

If zombies are part of the apocalypse, you might want to arm yourself to avoid getting bitten (or eaten!) Pistols Plus, a gun shop in Osage Beach, claims to have the largest selection of pistols, and they also have an array of rifles and bows. If you’re not a "gun person," that’s ok. Find yourself a new best friend who is.

At 1,772 feet, Taum Sauk Mountain is the highest point in the state. There’s a waterfall nearby, and you’ll have a decent vantage point to see the zombies coming. Bring along a tent, sleeping bag and a LOT of food.

With a 55,600-acre surface area, Truman Reservoir is the largest manmade lake in the state. Grab a large boat and head out on the water, where you’ll be safe from disease, zombies, and pretty much anything except water monsters. Don’t forget your fishing pole...you’re going to be eating a LOT of seafood.

According to the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, residents in St. Charles County are the healthiest in the state. This is important when surviving an apocalypse. You’re less likely to get sick and also you can probably run faster than zombies.

Usually you’ll want to avoid large cities on doomsday, but if you’re already in St. Louis, you have a couple of options. Gateway Arch would be a good place, provided everyone else hasn’t already thought of it. You’ll have a great view of the city and can see help (or zombies) coming.

Alternatively, head for one of the Costco Warehouses in the St. Louis area. You’ll be well-stocked with food and supplies, and you can always entertain yourself by racing around the aisles on a razor scooter. Grab one of the grills and have a BBQ!

The website Career Builder named Kansas City as the eighth best city in the country for surviving a zombie apocalypse. It cited KC as one of the best equipped places for defense, best food supply and best possibility for containment, amongst other factors.

If all else fails, and you find yourself in St. Louis with no prospects for good hiding spots, head over to the Anheuser-Busch Brewery. It’s been around since 1852, so it clearly has staying power. You can hang out with the brew masters and celebrate the end of the world in style.
