If you’ve ever had a sandwich, toast, or even a plain piece of sliced bread, give a tip of the hat to this charming town in Missouri. Chillicothe is perhaps best known as the Home of Sliced Bread.
It was in this lovely town, after all, that the invention by Iowan native Otto Rohwedder, was first used in 1928, making life a lot more convenient for all of us.
Chillicothe celebrates its rich history by hosting the Sliced Bread Day Festival each July. The day boasts a ton of fun, including food vendors, craft vendors, kids’ activities, and The Greatest Parade Since Sliced Bread.
Kick off your visit to Chillicothe with a visit to the Sliced Bread Innovation Center, the town’s welcome center. While you’re there, pick up some cool gear, and or see how long it takes you to get out of The Greatest Escape, an escape room.
But Chillicothe is known for something else too, which you’ll likely notice right away. The town features countless murals on its buildings, all of which tell part of the story of this delightful Missouri town.
