Despite which story may be true, the fact remains: Aurora, Missouri is a picture-perfect day trip destination.
Local legend tells that the darling small town of Aurora, MO got its name from the Goddess of Dawn, Aurora. Others claim it earned its moniker from the Northern Lights.
Regardless of the origin of the name, the charming small town (well, it’s officially a city) dates back to 1870 and is home to more than 7,000 residents.
If you're looking for things to do in Aurora, MO, carve out at least a day for your visit, although you’ll find plenty to do to make it into a longer getaway – a weekend, maybe more? If you love the outdoors, for example, explore one of the four community parks – Baldwin, Crosby, Oak, or White.
