The Show Me State truly has some of the best parks and historical sites managed by the Missouri State Parks System. But there’s one park here in Missouri that is truly one-of-a-kind for featuring not one but three historically important structures on one site. You’ll find both beauty and history at this amazing site in southeastern Missouri. No matter when you visit, you’ll surly fall in love with this charming little park.

The Bollinger Mill State Historic Site is home to the oldest covered bridge in the state of Missouri.

Known as the Burfordville Covered Bridge this little wooden structure was erected in 1858. During the Civil War the adjoining Bollinger Mill was burned to the ground by Union forces but historians are uncertain if the bridge was affected by this destruction.

Today both the mill and the bridge are a part of the Missouri Parks System and tour are provided on demand with a small admission fee.

Inside the mill you can see the fully operational water-powered grist mill. They even provide a live demonstration of making stone-ground cornmeal.

The Bollinger Mill State Historic site so unique for having a historic mill, covered bridge, and historic cemetery all on one site. Burfordville Covered Bridge is one of only four remaining covered bridges in the state. The This area is truly a state treasure.

The historic site is also a great place to picnic and is a perfect spot for nature photographers.

The little cemetary on the grounds is the resting place for the original mill owner George Frederick Bollinger and his family members. Many of the tombstones are original but over the years some have been replaced.
