Spending time outdoors just might be the best way to really experience Missouri. We certainly have no shortage of places to explore all year around. Pershing State Park in Missouri, for example, offers a ton to do on its 5,000 acres. Whether you’re a hiker who likes to meander along charming boardwalks or you are just looking for a picture-perfect spot for a picnic, you’ll definitely want to add Pershing State Park to your must-visit list.
Boardwalks stretch throughout Pershing State Park, in Laclede, making for a picturesque backdrop, especially if you're up for a refreshing hike.
For the best boardwalk views, head out on the Locust Creek Boardwalk Trail. At just 1.5 miles, the trail is rated easy for hikers of all ages and skill levels.
Begin your trek on the old iron bridge that leads you through a variety of terrain, including forested areas. The towering trees, in fact, help provide shade on those hot summer days.
One of the highlights of the trail, which is entirely comprised of boardwalks, is an observation tower. It provides sweeping views of a 1,000-acre wet prairie.
Pershing State Park is also home to an old-fashioned covered bridge, well worth a visit. Follow the .09-mile Locust Creek Covered Bridge Trail, an easy trail that consists of gravel.
If a single day just isn't enough, Pershing State Park also welcomes overnight visitors at its year-round campground. (However, water and showers are only available from April 15 through the end of October.)
