We all need a bit of solitude and tranquility every now and then. Fortunately, we can find quite a few places dotted across the state to find that peace and quiet. If you’ve never been to the Black Madonna Shrine and Grottos in Missouri, you’ll definitely want to add it to your bucket list. A stroll past the beautiful grottos will leave you in awe.
Nestled in the small town of Pacific, the Black Madonna Shrine and Grottos are breathtaking sights to behold, making it a must-visit at least once.
Except for the Navity Grotto, the only natural grotto on the grounds and pictured below, all of the grottos were handbuilt from tiff rock from the nearby town of Potosi.
Start your journey at The Bridge, where all walking tours begin, and make your way past a series of grottos, including the St. Francis Grotto. The patron saint of animals, St. Francis's grotto features a boy with his dog.
Our Lady of Perpetual Help Grotto is particularly meaningful as it is the site of Brother Bronislaus' death. He passed from heat stroke during the summer of 1960.
