We’re pretty lucky to have countless lakes and rivers from which to choose when we want to hang out in, on, or by the water. Snuggled along the Missouri River, the darling town of Washington is known for a few things, including its rich German heritage and its location smack dab in the middle of wine country.
Some of the earliest settlers in Washington were German immigrants, and the vibrant river town celebrates that heritage at The Farmhouse at the Kohmueller Farmstead and The Historical Society.
Washington offers plenty of outdoor recreation, too, at its neighborhood parks. Golfing, hiking, and fishing are all popular activities. If you’re bringing the kiddos, stop by the All Abilities Park.
Set aside a few hours, too, to do a bit of shopping. Grab a bite at one of the town’s restaurants. From classic pizza and tacos to family restaurants and fast food, Washington offers something for every taste.
An idyllic destination in all four seasons, Washington hosts a variety of events throughout the year. Spring means an epic BBQ and Bluegrass festival while the town gears up for the spookiest day of the year with Pumpkin Palooza.
If you’re visiting on a Saturday between April and October, stop by the Farmers Market. Featuring more than 30 vendors selling everything from homegrown produce to handcrafted goods, the market runs from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
