Missouri is practically synonymous with adventure. Whether we’re on the hunt for adrenaline-inducing experiences or quiet moments in nature, we’ll find an adventure that fits the bill. For a heart-pounding adventure that promises spellbinding views and magical moments, why not go rock climbing? Fortunately, you won’t have to travel far. Just make your way to Capen Park, home to one of the most unique climbing destinations in Columbia, Missouri.
Although it stretches just 30 acres, Capen Park in Columbia packs a whole lot of scenic beauty and adventure into its rather compact size.
Even if you’re not up for fast-paced thrills, you can marvel at the bluffs – and the views from them – from along the .05-mile Capen Park Trail. The easy out-and-back trail will lead you past Hinkson Creek and through a forested area.
You’ll also follow this short but sweet trail if you plan to check out one of the nearly two dozen climbing routes, predominately top-roped, that will allow you to explore a 55-foot cliff.
Most of the climbing routes are considered fairly straightforward and doable for even those with little to no rock climbing experience. Hikers, in fact, often scramble to the top of the cliff to get to the scenic overlook.
Before you head out for a rock climbing adventure, keep in mind that you are taking a risk. The City of Columbia warns about such potential issues as falling rocks, loose rocks, and slippery surfaces.
