An Unexpected Tavern Is Hiding Underground In This Brewery Cellar In Missouri
One of my most favorite places to grab a drink in Missouri would have to be this neat little underground Irish pub in Weston. For history buffs, it has an interesting story and is the oldest pub in Missouri. For beer fanatics, it has some of the most fantastic selection of craft beers on tap, with the majority of them being brewed right next door.

The Weston Brewing Company was first established in 1842 by German immigrant John Georgian, but over the years, its ownership has changed. In the early 1900's, word of the oldest brewery west of the Hudson river (at the time), got around and even the Kansas City Royals baseball team all dropped in for a drink. During this time, the brewery was the largest manufacturing plant in Platte County and was producing 20,000 barrels a year.

During the 1840s, five stone cellars were dug up and used to lager and chill the beer in solid oaken tanks. Today, that space is used to house O'Malley's Pub.

When I first arrived at Weston Brewing Company, I was a bit confused as to where the actual underground pub was. I noticed lots of people drinking and eating in the outdoor beer garden and even walked into the restaurant for seating. Make sure you go to the building that's marked "O'Malley & Son", just west of the restaurant and patio and enter through the door farthest to the left. Once inside, you'll take a couple flights of stairs and ramps to get to the actual pub.

During the weekends, this place gets packed, so keep your eyes open for any available seats. Don't shy away from making friends, you may just end up sharing a booth with strangers in order to snag a seat in this popular place.

Every weekend and certain nights throughout the week, live bands perform. O'Malley's tends to draw in a lot of Irish bands, too! The acoustics are pretty great in this former cellar.

Well kept draught ales, lagers and cider are offered along with wines and specialty drinks. And the pub also has 10 types of Irish whiskeys available. Personally, I like to sip on their home-brewed beers on tap, and O'Malley's Creamy Ale is a favorite of mine that I highly recommend.

This cozy multi-level pub that's hidden fifty-five feet underground, is truly a diamond in the rough. Make a trip yourself or bring along some out-of-town guests to really wow them with some Missouri history.
Weston Brewing Company and O’Malley’s Pub are located at 500 Welt St, Weston, MO 64098. The pub is open every day of the week from 11:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.
