Those of us who grew up in or who live in Missouri already know just what makes it so wonderful — like the delicious food we can find in all corners of the state. Wouldn’t it be awesome if we could share some of the food we love so much with the rest of the country? Check out the following six restaurant chains in Missouri (some of which have locations in other parts of the Midwest) that the country absolutely needs to discover. Then, let us know what other Missouri chains you think Americans would love.
Winstead's has been a Kansas City favorite since 1940. And, although its other locations are in Kansas, the burger joint certainly has made its mark in Missouri. Sink your teeth into one of the famous steakburgers -— the single, the double, or the triple. Of course, Winstead's also serves a variety of sandwiches and such classic sides as fries, onions, and tater tots.
We, Missourians, know exactly where to go when we're craving a hearty roast beef sandwich. After all, who can resist one of Lion's famous roast beef shaved thin, making every bite a dream? If you're not in the mood for roast beef, order one of the other scrumptious sandwiches, such as hickory smoked ham, roasted turkey breast, and smokehouse pulled pork. Lions, a state staple since 1967, also serves its famous sandwiches paired with fries and a drink.
Sometimes we all need a little stroll down Memory Lane, right? And, Courtesy Diner, which boasts three locations, has been a favorite St. Louis spot since 1935. Sit down to breakfast any time. Or, order one of the hearty house specials — the steak sandwich and fries, the chili cheeseburger and fries, or the western BBQ burger and fries. Of course, you also have a delicious assortment of sides - from the fried okra and potato salad to the onion rings and coleslaw — from which to choose.
Mmm...mmm... nothing satisfies a relentless craving for pizza than a piping hot pie from Imo's. The pizza chain has been serving its famous pies since 1964. Dig into a hot pizza pie, topped with homemade sauce and boasting a delightfully thin crust. And, if you're not in the mood for pizza, order one of the hearty sandwiches — the roast beef, the ham and cheese, or the turkey club, for example.
In the mood for a little Mexican? Well, how about the Purple Burrito? The popular Mexican eatery boasts several locations and serves an array of authentic Mexican dishes. What's your favorite? The massive burritos? A few enchiladas? Or, a hearty helping of nachos?
What's the best way to eat fresh, hot rolls? Well, thrown to us, right? Lambert's Cafe, with three locations, has become well-known for its famous "throwed rolls." Pair those rolls with one of an assortment of entrees, from center cut ham steak and the pulled pork sandwich to the country fried round steak and chicken pot pie.
