Though Daniella was born in New York and has lived in a couple of other states, Mississippi has been her home for more than 30 years. After graduating from the University of Southern Mississippi, Daniella began to hone her writing skills through various internships. In the years since, she’s had the privilege of having her articles appear in several publications, such as the Mississippi-based Parents & Kids Magazine. She’s also had the honor of interviewing actress Sela Ward for The Mississippi Arts and Entertainment Experience.
A couple of years ago, we told you about Tupelo Buffalo Park. (To refresh your memory, the 200-acre park is home to more than 260 animals and offers guided safari tours.) But, that’s not the only place in Mississippi where you can get up close and personal with wildlife. Though a bit smaller, the recently opened wildlife park in Brandon, MS is perfect for a family day trip. Take a look:
This is McClain Lodge. It’s located just east of Jackson in the town of Brandon.
The 2,000-acre property has long been a popular event venue; however, it recently underwent a makeover, which included the addition of several restaurants, a farmers market, general store, and Safari Park.
Learning about the park’s wild inhabitants is easy thanks to guided safari tours. Perfect for all ages, the fun-filled excursions include riding in either a private tour vehicle (pictured) or wagon.
*From McClain’s website: "Please note that our prices are temporary and will change upon completion of the construction of our Safari Park. We apologize for any inconvenience.
Continue your "wild" time after your tour by grabbing a bite to eat at The Observation Deck. The on-site eatery features huge windows, so you can catch glimpses of zebras, buffalo, and more while you dine.
The McClain Safari Park is located at 874 Holly Bush Rd., Brandon, MS 39047. For more information, call (601) 829-1101 or visit McClain’s website or Facebook page.
