With countless supermarket chains filling the country, small-town groceries are far and few between. However, they do still exist — and one of the best is located right here in Mississippi. Much more than a place to shop, the charming store features a café that serves up a tasty fare. The one-stop-shop has garnered lots of attention and was even featured in the New York Times. Take a look:
This is The B.T.C. Old-Fashioned Grocery. You’ll find it on Main Street in Water Valley, a charming small town in Yalobusha County.
And as soon as you set foot inside, you’ll quickly realize the interior is just as delightful as the exterior. The vast merchandise selection changes almost daily — and includes an impressive variety.
A bountiful produce selection makes up a huge portion of the inventory, which is no coincidence. The owners of B.T.C. aim to carry as much fresh, local produce as possible.
Grass-fed ground beef, local eggs, glass-bottled milk, and hoop cheese are just a few other things you'll find at B.T.C. But that’s not all; there’s also a section called Antiques and Junk.
But the very best part about B.T.C. is the Dixie Belle Café. Now a local favorite, the eatery is often packed. But it’s not just Water Valley residents that are impressed with the mouthwatering fare.
Over the years, countless publications have featured Dixie Belle Café. In addition to the New York Times, the café has been highlighted by the Wall Street Journal, Food and Wine, and North Mississippi Herald.
The early-morning fare includes local favorites, like grits and sausage and gravy, as well as classics with a twist, such as red rooster French toast with homemade chocolate gravy.
The B.T.C. Old-Fashioned Grocery is open Wednesday through Saturday. For more information, call (662) 473-4323. You can also visit the eatery’s website or Facebook page.
