Don’t be fooled by the name; Little Black Creek is actually a 640-acre lake that makes for the perfect day trip destination. This lovely lake is more than just a pretty face, though: there are loads of fun activities to pursue along its shores and on its sparkling surface. Read on to find out more about this under-appreciated Mississippi lake.
Even if you don't plan on staying overnight, this lake is chock-full of things to do and see.
First of all, the area surrounding the lake is pristine and well-maintained. There are plenty of spots to spread a picnic blanket, play a game of catch or simply lounge on the grass.
Of course, the real fun starts once you leave the shore behind. Hop in your kayak or canoe for a refreshing paddle across the 640-acres of clear, clean water. Wade in for a dip and feel the soft sand beneath your toes.
Anglers will be in heaven here. The lake is full of a wide variety of fish, and the campground also offers a fully stocked pond. There are weekly fishing tournaments during the summer season, so bring your competitive spirit.
Beyond swimming and paddling, there are plenty of things to do for the more land-included visitor. Saddle up and go for a horseback ride around the lake, walk one of the various trails through the area, or even play a round of disc golf.
If you do feel like settling in for the night, you can stay in one of 20 family-friendly cabins or pitch your tent at one of the many primitive camping areas. There are also more than 100 RV sites in which to park your camper. The cabins have delightful porches and comfortable interiors, so you'll be right at home while feeling a million miles away from the everyday.
Keep an eye out for the year-round events held at the park, and visit the campground website for more information about the lake and renting a cabin.
