They say, growing older is a privilege denied to many. And while that thought is clearly directed towards people, it most certainly applies to restaurants, too. Each day, restaurants are forced to close their doors for good. With so many restaurants failing, it seems nearly impossible for one to last a year, let alone decades. Opened in 1870, Weidmann’s takes the title of Mississippi’s oldest restaurant. And what better way to start this list than with the oldest eatery in the state? Over the years, Weidmann’s has earned national recognition for its tasty southern fare, which includes world famous black bottom pie. Housed in one of the oldest homes in the country, this Biloxi gem is loaded with history. The historic home was constructed in 1737, and by 1962, it was transformed into the renowned Mary Mahoney’s. Since opening its doors, this restaurant has been frequented by everyone from locals and tourists to celebrities, presidents, and dignitaries. This iconic eatery has two claims to fame. Not only is it Jackson’s longest operating restaurant, but it’s also known far and wide for its world famous comeback sauce. This drug-store-soda-fountain-combo has been in business since 1865! Visit today, and you’ll find great grub and charming retro digs. The mouthwatering menu includes salads, sandwiches, slugburgers, and lots of sweet treats, so remember to bring your appetite. Borroum’s is located at 604 E Waldron St., Corinth, MS 38834.
Serving the area since 1924, this restaurant has become somewhat of a Tunica landmark. Running the restaurant is a family affair, complete with authentic southern recipes that have been passed down for generations. This Amory staple was established in 1929! And while many things have changed since then, one thing has remained the same – the secret recipe used to make the one-of-a-kind burgers Bill’s has become known for. Visit Bill’s at 310 N Main St., Amory, MS 38821.
Located in a stately home and featuring a menu of southern classics, you’re sure to feel right at home at this iconic eatery, which has been around for nearly a century. In business for over 70 years, this family owned diner has become a Greenwood staple. The lengthy menu is filled with everything from southern favorites to American classics. Over the years, the legendary eatery – and its famous pie – has been featured in countless publications as well as on the Food Network and TBS. This local favorite has been in business since 1951, and if you’ve ever had the pleasure of tasting the food you know why. Each item on the menu, from the po’ boys to the burgers and old-fashioned floats, is just as good as the next.
