This Is One Of The Oldest Restaurants On Mississippi's Gulf Coast

Pleasant’s Bar-B-Q opened in Ocean Springs in 1982, making it the city’s oldest restaurant.

Since day one, it’s been a laidback, family-friendly establishment, which likely has something to do with the fact that it’s been family-owned and operated from the beginning.

But that’s not the only thing that’s remained the same throughout the decades. There’s also its flavorful barbeque, which is billed as the best barbeque on the Gulf Coast.

And depending on who you ask, the secret is the eatery’s signature sauce.

Speaking of the famous sauce, it was created by Mrs. Pleasant, one of the founders, in 1984. It was meant to distinguish the eatery from other barbeque joints – and it succeeded.

Today, both new and repeat customers stop by the restaurant to stock up on its famous sauce. However, it’s not just the flavorful sauce that brings people to Pleasant’s Bar-B-Q.

The incredibly delicious food is another reason people regularly flock to the eatery.

Using an open-pit, Pleasant’s Bar-B-Q churns out hickory smoked beef, pork, chicken, and sausage.

The menu also includes sandwiches as well as classic sides, like beans, potato salad, Cole slaw, and greens.

There are daily specials, too. The specials include everything from meat loaf and fettuccine to smothered pork chops and catfish.
