Hey, It's Christmas In Mississippi. Here's What Santa Brought You!
The most wonderful day of the year, otherwise known as Christmas, has finally arrived. And while the true meaning of the season should never be overlooked, we can’t help but to find ourselves asking others, “What’d you get?” So, with that in mind, it seemed like the perfect time to reflect on the gifts Santa Claus has given to Mississippi, and from the looks of it, the state was definitely on the “nice” list.

Did you know that Santa has been giving Mississippians money all year? Yep, it's true. A recent study found that $100 in Mississippi actually has a buying power of $125.

Santa must’ve realized a state full of nature lovers would appreciate great state parks, and he definitely delivered because out of 4,000 state parks nationwide, seven of Mississippi’s 25 made the top 100.

Apparently, the big guy in red understands the importance of preserving history because as of today, the state has nearly 1,400 sites included on the National Register of Historic Places, countless battlefields, Native American sites, plantations, and colonial settlements.

If anyone knows that food makes a great gift, it’s Santa. And between the catfish, barbecue, hot tamales, slugburgers, Comeback sauce, and other local specialties (the list could go on and on), it’s safe to say he delivered.

Mississippi’s breathtaking scenery is just one of Santa’s gifts that keeps on giving year-round.

Perhaps one of the best gifts of all is the fact that Mississippi is made up of five distinct regions (Hills, Delta, Pines, River, and Coastal), which means residents can experience quite the variety without ever having to leave the state.

While we don’t know which team is his favorite, Santa has given Mississippians some great teams to cheer for.

Education is a high priority for many, and apparently, Santa is included in this group. Need proof? Among the state’s numerous colleges, universities, and technical schools, are several top ranked institutions. For example, Mississippi College, Mississippi State University, and the University of Mississippi are considered some of the best in the southeastern United States, while the Mississippi University for Women was included in US News and Report’s list of Best Southern Schools as well as Forbes’ list of Best Public Colleges.

Just because he lives in the North Pole doesn’t mean Santa can’t appreciate a good forest, which must be why he gifted Mississippi with the Petrified Forest. And as the only one of its kind in the eastern United States, it’s a pretty incredible gift.

Baking holiday goodies without the fresh fruit, veggies, and other locally grown goods that can be found at farmers' markets would be just about impossible. Luckily, that's not an issue because Santa has given Mississippi some of the best farmers' markets in the country.

Santa must’ve been overwhelmed with those asking for a home state that offered hospitality, generosity, a sense of community, security, and great neighbors because that is exactly the stuff Mississippi is made of.
