According to the home’s owner, Alice, strange things began happening as soon as she moved in. Doors opening and slamming on their own and items mysteriously disappearing and then reappearing became her new normal. Initially, she learned to cope with the bizarre happenings, but that changed when she saw "a large tunnel of light going from the ceiling to the floor." After that, Alice fled the home and sought the help of paranormal professionals.
For the last 10 years, several paranormal investigators have been studying the home, and within recent years, began recording their findings, which are portrayed in the documentary, The House In Between.

Paranormal investigators John Bullard and Brad Cooney were the first to start studying the home, with Bullard beginning his investigation about a decade ago and Cooney joining four years later. Together, the two men have been meticulously investigating the home, hoping to solve one of the most disturbing haunted house cases. Bullard and Cooney eventually called in Steve Gonsalves and Kendall Whelpton, who are most known for their work on the show Ghost Hunters, to document their findings in The House In Between. Never before has a haunted house been continuously studied for a 10-year period, so the documentary is definitely a paranormal game changer.

One of the most popular, yet bone-chilling, Mississippi ghost stories ever told is the one about the Pirate House that was built in 1802. The Pirate House, which was located in Waveland, Mississippi, was destroyed by Hurricane Camille. Even though the house was destroyed by a hurricane, the ghost story about it still lives on. As the story goes, at least eight ghosts were seen haunting the Pirate House, which was used as a hideout for Jean Lafitte and additional Gulf Coast pirates. There's a secret tunnel inside the house that once held prisoners. They were tortured inside these tunnels until they died. Phantom screams and moans were eventually heard throughout the Pirate House.
