Though the year is only halfway over, it’s been pretty eventful so far. And with the 2020 hurricane season predicted to be one of the worst in years, it doesn’t look like things will be slowing down anytime soon. That’s right; the meteorologists with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration predict an above-normal season. Read on for all the details.
Running from June 1st – November 30th, hurricane season has officially begun, and the NOAA’s Climate Prediction Center expects it to be quite active here in Mississippi.
The busier-than-normal season can be attributed to several factors – one of which is record-high water temperatures in the Gulf of Mexico, according to Mississippi Emergency Management Agency (MEMA).
And it’s not just the state’s coastal region affected by hurricanes. An active hurricane season can be felt further inward in the form of flooding and tornadoes.
