Some of The South's Best Catfish Can Be Found At Taylor Grocery In Mississippi
Located just miles from the food-centric city of Oxford, you’ll find the small town of Taylor, which has garnered a reputation all its own when it comes to great food. In business for decades, Taylor Grocery is housed in a building that dates back to the 1800s, making a trip to the restaurant an unforgettable, not to mention delicious, experience.

The building that houses Taylor Grocery was constructed in 1889 by Duff Ragland and served as a dry goods store until 1930, at which point Ragland sold it. Despite ownership of the building changing several times throughout the years, it was often used as a general store.

In 1977, the building was purchased by Jerry and Evie Wilson and renamed Taylor Grocery. The couple had been serving mouthwatering catfish for years, originally operating in a building just a few doors down from Taylor Grocery.

Taylor Grocery quickly became a local favorite, and is now so well-known, it’s often referred to simply as "that catfish place." But it’s not only locals that love the restaurant, diners have come from near and far for a taste of the perfectly prepared catfish.

Hailed the "south’s best catfish house" by Southern Foodways Alliance, long wait times, which can be up to several hours, are not uncommon.

But, according to diners, you won’t regret the wait. Plus, there’s "the best front porch in the country," plenty of sweet tea, and live music to make your wait a bit more enjoyable. Guests are even encouraged to tailgate while they wait.

The restaurant’s famous catfish can be ordered fried, grilled, or blackened.

And according to customer reviews, each option is as delicious as the next.

Aside from the famous catfish, the menu includes southern favorites, such as gumbo and red beans and rice, steak, and signature creations, like Rotel Fries (pictured).
