Though Daniella was born in New York and has lived in a couple of other states, Mississippi has been her home for more than 30 years. After graduating from the University of Southern Mississippi, Daniella began to hone her writing skills through various internships. In the years since, she’s had the privilege of having her articles appear in several publications, such as the Mississippi-based Parents & Kids Magazine. She’s also had the honor of interviewing actress Sela Ward for The Mississippi Arts and Entertainment Experience.
Talk about a blast from the past! Smitty’s Super Service Station houses an amazing collection of memorabilia from Showbiz Pizza, a chain eatery from the 80s. Part of the restaurant’s fun was its house band, Rock-afire Explosion. Today, Smitty’s is the only place you can still see the musically talented puppets perform. Take a look:
Smitty’s Super Service Station is hiding in the small community of Sandy Hook. From the outside, it looks like a typical service station, but that couldn’t be further from the truth.
Basically the ultimate 80s tribute, Smitty’s is brimming with animated puppets and memorabilia, which once filled the popular pizza chain, Showbiz Pizza.
Many were sad to see the popular pizzeria go; however, one person, Damon Breland, refused to let the establishment, more specifically its house band, Rock-afire Explosion, disappear forever and in 2007, he opened Smitty’s.
Despite a small town locale, the impressiveness of the display hasn’t gone unnoticed. In 2008, Smitty’s was featured in the documentary, The Rock-afire Explosion.
