Search For Fossils At W.M. Browning Cretaceous Fossil Park In Mississippi Which Was An Ancient Ocean Once Upon A Time
Millions of years ago, this blue marble we call home looked much different. Not just the plants and animals, but the landscape, too. There’s evidence that this one particular spot in Mississippi was once part of a much larger ocean, and if you’re patient and have some luck on your side, you might just find yourself a fossil! It’s one of the best places to find fossils in Mississippi, and it’s hiding right in plain sight!

It’s right off of U.S. Route 45 where it intersects with 7450. You may have driven past it dozens of times and never given it a second thought!

The best way to hunt for these fossils is to get into the water! Bring a pair of flip-flops or sacrifice a pair of tennis shoes. You could go barefoot, but there are a lot of rocks and potentially sharp objects that you wouldn’t want to cut yourself on.

This ancient fossil bed has revealed fossils of sharks, crocodiles (yes, crocodiles), mosasaurs, dinosaurs, and many now-extinct creatures from the Cretaceous period, 75 million years ago.
