Mississippi is full of wonderful surprises – and Reservoir Botanical Gardens is definitely one of them. Featuring native trees and plants as well as an array of ornamental shrubs and flowers, it’s brimming with beauty and sure to delight visitors of all ages. Even better, a short nature trail winds through the gardens, making for a serene stroll that’s as effortless as it is enjoyable. Take a look:
Just a short drive from Jackson, Reservoir Botanical Gardens is located in Brandon.
The garden was started over 20 years ago as part of an Eagle Scout project. Not much of the original garden remains, though, since it was redesigned in 1992.
However, just like all those years ago, the Boy Scouts still play a big role in the garden’s maintenance. The Botanical Park Garden Club also helps to maintain the garden, ensuring it’s safe and ready for use year-round.
Absolutely enchanting, the grounds boast a woodland garden that’s filled with native trees and plants. Attractive shrubbery and vivid flora also fill the gardens.
A short trail, which is about one mile in length, winds through the gardens, so visitors of all ages can easily explore its colorful blooms and vibrant greenery.
The entrance to the trail at Reservoir Botanical Gardens is hiding in the back of the parking lot that’s shared by the Reservoir Public Library, Reservoir Fire Station, and the Community Center. For more information on the Reservoir Botanical Gardens, visit Rankin County’s website.
