If you’re willing to travel off the beaten path, you’ll find some of the best restaurants in Mississippi. The extra travel time may seem a little off putting, at first; however, the tasty fare usually more than makes up for it. And if you agree, then you need to pay a visit to Proffitt’s Porch. Remotely located and housed in a rustic cabin, the restaurant serves up some of the tastiest grub in the state. Take a look:
A true hidden gem, Proffitt's Porch is located on the back roads of Columbus, MS. It's open for lunch and dinner Tuesday through Sunday.
In business for over a decade, Proffitt’s Porch is a local favorite, so despite its remote location, it tends to get pretty crowded, which means a wait is likely (but well worth it).
Visit on a nice day and dining on the deck is practically required. In addition to lakefront vistas, you’ll most likely get close-up views of hummingbirds since the porch is surrounded by bird feeders.
The awesomeness of the outdoor dining area hasn’t been lost on residents, either. Mississippi Magazine readers voted it the "Best Outdoor Dining Experience" in the state.
But that’s not the only thing the readers agreed on. The restaurant’s signature sandwich, the Cam, also received some recognition – it was named the state’s "Best Sandwich."
And while the Cam may be the eatery’s most famous item, it’s not all you’ll find on the menu. In addition to a variety of other sandwiches, there are also salads and house specialties, like red beans and rice, gumbo, twice baked potatoes, and homemade soup.
Visit Proffitt’s Porch at 1587 Officers Lake Rd., Columbus, MS 39705. It’s open from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. – 9:30 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday. For more information, call (662) 327-4485 or click here.
