When it comes to natural wonders, we’ve got plenty in the Magnolia State. In addition to well known wonders, like the Mississippi River and Petrified Forest, there are also lesser known sites, like Red Bluff. Dubbed the “Little Grand Canyon of Mississippi,” it may not be as famous as its larger counterpart but it’s still sure to impress. This is one natural wonder every Mississippian should see at least once. Take a look:

Luckily, Red Bluff can be easily reached since it’s located just off Highway 587 near Foxworth, MS.

Its location on the highway is no coincidence, though. Red Bluff is actually the reason the highway had to be rerouted – twice.

The huge canyon formed as a result of millions of years of erosion from the nearby Pearl River.

So while the Highway Authority may not be happy about the erosion, it did give us the incredible natural wonder now known as Red Bluff.

If you’re feeling extra adventurous, you can hike down to the bottom of the canyon (like the folks circled in the photo below). Be careful, though. It can be a bit slippery. Also, a climb down requires a strenuous climb back up.
