You probably wouldn’t normally use quirky to describe a restaurant. However, that’s just because you haven’t been to Fat Mama’s Tamales in Natchez. Though the eatery is most known for its award winning fare, the fun and festive atmosphere is definitely a close second. This wonderfully strange restaurant needs to be on your food bucket list. Take a look:
Fat Mama’s Tamales officially opened in 1989 in a tiny shop, selling only tamales to-go. Over time, it’s evolved into a full blown restaurant known for its tamales and margaritas.
Now a "must see attraction" when in Natchez, the eatery has a reputation for a lively atmosphere, which includes brightly colored walls and lots of eclectic décor.
Though many things have changed since Fat Mama’s first opened all those years ago, one this has stayed the same – the tamales are still a customer favorite.
The mouthwatering tamales are made by placing a combination of seasoned ground beef and pork roast inside a spicy masa, wrapping it all in a real corn husk, and then cooking it for over 3 hours.

And it's not just the customers that go crazy for the tamales. Over the years, they've topped countless lists and have been named "the best" by a variety of publications.
With such a high demand, the "world famous" tamales are now available for shipment around the globe and have made it as far as Hong Kong and Switzerland!
But the tamales aren't the only award winning item you'll find on the menu. Fat Mama's Knock You Naked Margarita Mix is extremely popular and also shipped worldwide.
…there’s an outdoor patio with plenty of seating. Situated underneath a huge oak tree, the patio is well shaded, so it's comfy even when it’s warm outside.
