If you ever watched the movie, The Help, you’ve undoubtedly noticed the appetizing array of food depicted in the film. If you haven’t seen it, trust us – a slew of southern specialties appear in the movie. And now, thanks to The Help-themed class at the Viking Cooking School, you can experience the film’s fare firsthand. Take a look:
Located at the eastern edge of the Mississippi Delta, Greenwood is brimming with Southern charm.
Visitors can easily explore film locations throughout Greenwood via a self-guided driving tour. (You can view the map here.) But a driving tour isn’t the only way to experience The Help.
The Viking Cooking School’s The Help-themed cooking class is also an option for die-hard movie fans (or anyone who simply loves classic Southern cuisine).
A cutting-edge cooking facility with only two locales (one in Greenwood and one in New Jersey), The Viking Cooking School offers a variety of classes, which are attended by over 77,000 students each year!
Classes, which are designed for the novice cook and the experienced chef alike, cover an array of subjects, including ethnic cuisines, baking, vegetarian, and more. However, one of the most popular classes is its "Southern Specialties from the Hit Movie The Help."
Participants will learn to make a myriad of Southern specialties including crispy fried chicken, feather-light biscuits, creamy mac n' cheese, cornbread, greens, and chocolate pie.
In addition to specific dishes, students are taught an assortment of skills and techniques, including seasoning, breading and frying chicken, testing chicken for doneness, and lots more.
