Ever wondered which state is the most patriotic in the country? Well, you wouldn’t be the only one. Try finding this information online and you’ll quickly discover there are a ton of surveys that rank the patriotism of each state. However, I don’t know if I trust the validity of these surveys because Mississippi didn’t rank number one on any of them. There are plenty of reasons Mississippi should have the title of the most patriotic; here are 10 of them.
1. In 1866, a group of women visited a Columbus cemetery and adorned the graves of both Confederate and Union soldiers with flowers. This is acknowledged as one of the first observances of Memorial Day. (If starting Memorial Day isn’t patriotic, I don’t know what is!)
3. When it came time to send men to serve in World War II, D’Lo had proportionally more men volunteer than any other town of its size – a feat that was recognized by “Life” magazine.
7. Vicksburg National Cemetery is second in size only to Arlington National Cemetery and is the final resting place of 17,000 Civil War Union soldiers, a number unmatched by any other national cemetery.
8. Not only can you count on the state protecting your second amendment right, but Mississippi has taken things a step further by becoming an open carry state.
