Mississippi boasts some amazing historic sites, including one of the oldest homes in the U.S. Now a restaurant known as Mary Mahoney’s, you can actually dine inside the historic structure – and you’ll be in good company. Over the years, Mary Mahoney’s has had its fair share of famous patrons.
Mary Mahoney’s, which is also known as the Old French House, is in Biloxi.
French colonist Louis Frasier built the house, and as such, it features lots of French design elements, including high ceilings, hand-made bricks, and cypress columns.
During its time as a residence, it was occupied by various people, including French Governor Jean Baptiste Bienville, who headquartered the Louisiana Territory from the home.
The Old French House served a residence until 1962, when it was purchased by Mary Mahoney. Her husband and brother and transformed into the award-winning restaurant it is today.
Since its establishment, the restaurant has become as significant as the building that houses it. But Mary Mahoney’s isn’t just a local icon – it’s a favorite of several celebrities, too.
