Whoever coined the expression “easy as pie” has clearly never tried to make one. From the crust to the filling, baking a pie is anything but easy. So, if you can’t make your own pie, what’s the next best thing? Buying one. And luckily for residents, pies are a pretty big thing here in Mississippi, which means getting a mouthwatering slice is a piece of…pie, especially at these local eateries.
They were just named Diner’s Choice 2015, but Char Restaurant is most known for its homemade pecan pie, which has been described as "out of this world."

Known for featuring a menu based on Delta favorites, it should come as no surprise that Sherman’s offers an array of homemade pies. While the lemon ice box seems to be the most popular, customers may also choose from chocolate cream pie, coconut cream pie, and, of course, pecan pie.
As one of Madison’s oldest restaurants, the Strawberry Café has garnered quite the reputation over the years. And, after the new owners took over in 2005, part of that reputation is having great desserts, which include caramel and chocolate pies.
Offering casual dining in a relaxed atmosphere, Proffitt’s Porch is a favorite among both families and MUW students – all of whom can appreciate a delicious, affordable meal accompanied by awesome views of nearby Officer’s Lake. Don’t fill up too much on your entrée, as you’ll want to save room for some authentic Mississippi desserts, such as chocolate chess pie and chocolate chip pie.

Using a family recipe, Tom has been frying up both fruit-filled and meat-filled pies for years now, and it seems as if customers just can’t get enough! This historic Meridian restaurant is famous for its decadent black bottom pie, so much so that it was recognized as "best in the world" and included in Peter Greenberg’s book, "The Best Places for Everything." According to the owner, however, the black bottom pie is actually not the most ordered dessert on the menu – the lemon almond pie is. If the restaurant’s second most popular dessert has garnered so much attention, can you imagine how good that lemon almond pie must be?

With a list of accolades that include being listed on Southern Living’s "Top Diners in the South," featured on the Food Network, and recognized by TBS for having the "best desserts," The Crystal Grill obviously knows good food. Oxford’s historic Courthouse Square is filled with award-winning eateries, so the fact that the Bottletree Bakery is located in this sought after locale speaks volumes. And even if the bakery’s location doesn’t impress you, keep in mind that the Bottletree Bakery’s apple pie just so happens to be a favorite of Oprah Winfrey and the strawberry humble pie was featured on the Food Network’s "Best Of."
For the past 50 years, Stub’s Restaurant has been serving Yazoo City. The cafeteria-style lunches and dinners include an array of southern favorites like country fried steak, fried green tomatoes, and, the restaurant’s specialty dessert, chocolate chess pie.

Southaven’s Sweet Boutique definitely delivers when it comes to intricately decorated cakes but it’s the bakery’s signature dessert, the Whoopie Pie, that is the real star. Not your typical pie, the delicious cream-filled treat is a must and, since they have everything from basic chocolate to specialty flavors like maple nut crunch, there is definitely something for every sugar lover out there.
