When thinking of things that all Mississippians love, there are the obvious choices like sweet tea and our state’s colleges but there’s so much more! So, check out the list below to learn what captures the hearts of most Mississippians.
1. Hot Boiled Peanuts
Sure, plain peanuts are good but boiled peanuts are the best. And any local knows the best ones come from a vendor on the side of the road.
2. Porch Swings
There’s nothing better than spending time with family, friends and neighbors - and where better to do that than on a relaxing porch swing?
3. The Great Outdoors
The state of Mississippi is filled with wide open spaces, not to mention numerous nationally recognized state parks. From fishing and camping to swimming and boating, there’s nothing better than spending the day outside.
4. Mosquito Spray
Mosquitoes in Mississippi can be brutal, so developing an unconditional love for this stuff is a given.
5. Helping Others
We were raised with manners and this is the hospitality state after all but Mississippians are generous because they love to be, not because it’s expected. From banding together after hurricanes to offering a ride, you can count on a Mississippian to be there.
6. The Battle for the Golden Egg (aka Egg Bowl)
Mississippi has been the setting for numerous Civil War battles but there’s another famous battle the state is known for – the Battle for the Golden Egg. The annual game between MSU and Ole Miss is a tradition and, besides, who doesn’t love a good competition?
7. Tailgating
And with football comes tailgating. A day filled with friends and family, good food and football – how could anyone not love tailgating?
8. Mississippi Cuisine
Our state has always been associated with good ‘ole home cooking, and rightfully so. From tomato sandwiches to slugburgers to cornbread and collard greens, we have food that may seem unusual to some but we couldn’t live without it.
9. Crawfish Boils
So much more than a chance to enjoy some delicious food, crawfish boils are the perfect opportunity to get together with family and friends – something we Mississippians value greatly.
10. Literature
From William Faulkner to Willie Morris, the state of Mississippi has made numerous contributions to the world of literature, so it only makes sense that Mississippians would love a good book.
11. Church Family
Obviously church is a big deal in Mississippi, but our church family is a big deal too. We spend a couple of days a week with them, so it’s only natural that our fellow church members become like a second family.
12. Our Country
Mississippians not only love their state, they love their country as well. Our patriotic state was where Memorial Day began, after all.
13. Musical History
The state of Mississippi has made huge strides in the world of music. From the Blues to Elvis Presley, Mississippians are proud of their musical heritage…and rightfully so.
14. And of Course Our State
From our diverse landscape to the state’s sense of community, Mississippians love living in the Magnolia State. And sure, sometimes Mississippi residents have to leave but they usually come back…and who could blame them?
