Paul B. Johnson State Park: This 805-acre park is in Hattiesburg. Fish, boat, and swim on Geiger Lake, roam the nature trails, play disc golf, or relax and have a picnic. You can also camp here.
JP Coleman State Park: This spot is located in Iuka overlooking the Tennessee River. Here, you can sail, fish, and swim in the 47,500-acre Pickwick Lake. Or if you would rather stay on land, there are also opportunities for biking and mini-golf.
Tombigbee State Park: Head to Tupelo to find this park. Go fishing on Lake Lee, hike seven different trails, go biking, have a picnic, and more. You can also camp here.
Gulf Shrimp: With proximity to the Gulf, it’s no wonder that these little pink shrimps are so popular with Mississippi dishes. Boil them up and pair them with your favorite sauces, throw them into a Creole-style dish like jambalaya, or make a po’boy out of them.
Comeback Sauce: Invented in a Greek Jackson restaurant in the 1930s, this sauce consists of mayo, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, hot sauce, and garlic, with many variations in between. It’s great on fries, burgers, seafood, salads, and more.

East Beach: Located in Ocean Springs, this beach is much less touristy than other beaches. It’s a great place to just relax by the water, with a few cafes nearby to stop in to when you get a little hungry.
Sardis Lake: Want something different than a coastal beach? Head to this 98,520-acre lake in northwest Mississippi. Enjoy boating, swimming, and wakeboarding on the water. And hiking, bird watching, and picnicking on land.
