When you need a peaceful escape, you’ll find it at Gulf Islands National Seashore. The seashore spans 160 miles, from Cat Island, Mississippi to Florida. Accessible by car, the Davis Bayou Area in Ocean Springs features a visitor center, hiking trails, fishing pier, campground, boat launch, and picnic area.
If you’re craving peaceful solitude, a visit to Magnolia Grove Monastery is sure to satisfy. You can visit for the day or attend one of the monastery’s week-long retreats. Make sure to check the monastery’s website for information on upcoming events.
At only a ¼-mile from the Biloxi coastline, Deer Island is so close that anyone with a small boat, canoe, kayak, or paddleboard can access it, making it a prime spot for a peaceful escape. Once you arrive on Deer Island, you'll be greeted with signage on nature trails, which are a great way to explore the beautiful island.
If stunning scenery and natural beauty is what helps you unwind, Iuka is the ultimate relaxation destination! Despite the town’s tiny size (it has about 3,000 residents), Iuka is home to J.P. Coleman State Park, two city parks, Pickwick Lake, and Cooper Falls, a 50-foot cascade. As if that’s not enough, the award-winning Tishomingo State Park is not too far from Iuka.
5. Natchez Trace Parkway (Natchez, MS to Nashville, TN)
Stretching 444 miles, you’re bound to find some peace and quiet along this scenic trail. Offering plenty of opportunities for adventure along the way, the parkway is lined with everything from hiking and horseback riding trails to a variety of historic sites.
Spanning 42,000 acres, the Noxubee National Wildlife Refuge is a great place for some solo fun. Hiking trails and boardwalks wind through the refuge, which means you can easily explore the grounds and soak in the scenic surroundings.
When you need a several-day-long escape, look no further than Longleaf Piney Resort. A tiny house resort, it’s comprised of several small abodes and a vintage Airstream. And while the accommodations are amazing, the locale is nothing to scoff at. It’s located along the Longleaf Trace, a 41-mile rail trail!
