Seeking a good scare? You’re sure to find it in Mississippi. The state has ties to the Bell Witch, boasts one of the most haunted houses in America, and is home to an abandoned bridge with an incredibly creepy past. Known as Stuckey’s Bridge, it’s been out of commission for quite some time. However, that hasn’t put an end to the strange tales surrounding it.
Stuckey’s Bridge is nestled along a lonely country road, just outside of Meridian.
The abandoned truss bridge, which spans the Chunky River, has long been linked with tales of the supernatural. And in 2018, it garnered national fame when it was one of the sites included on the Travel Channel’s “Haunted Road Trips” series
Once his guests turned in for the night, Stuckey killed them, stole their valuables, and disposed of their lifeless bodies in the Chunky River near the present-day site of the bridge, which wasn’t built until 1850.
Eventually, Stuckey was caught, tried, and hung from the bridge that now bears his name. And depending on whom you ask, Stuckey haunts the bridge to this day.
The sound of a loud splash – with no obvious source – is another common occurrence near the bridge, which many believe signify Stuckey’s body hitting the water after being cut down from the bridge.
Though abandoned and closed to vehicular traffic, Stuckey’s Bridge is still accessible and is sought out by everyone from the curious to paranormal investigators.
So, did you know about this haunted bridge? Ever visited Stuckey’s Bridge in Mississippi? If so, did you see or hear anything? Know of any other Mississippi ghost stories? Whatever you’ve got to say, we want to hear!
This isn’t the state’s only spooky tale, though. Mississippi has several notoriously haunted locales. In addition to Stuckey’s Bridge, the Bell Witch, and one of America’s most haunted houses, Mississippi is home to a cemetery that’s revered as one of the most haunted graveyards in America.
