Within the coastal city of Biloxi, you’ll find one of the oldest homes in the entire country. The historic home was constructed in the 1700s when the French occupied the Gulf Coast. By the 1960s, the home had been transformed into the renowned restaurant Mary Mahoney’s and became lovingly known as the Old French House.

The “magnificently French” home was built in 1737 by French colonist Louis Frasier and included traditional characteristics, such as high ceilings.

Hand-made bricks and wooden pegged cypress columns were among the materials used by Frasier.

Although records are scarce, it is known that the home remained in the Frasier family until 1820. Subsequent residents of the home were of varied descents as the colony came under French, Spanish, German, and English influence over the course of time.

At one point, the home served as headquarters for Governor Jean Baptiste Bienville. In fact, he commanded the entire Louisiana Territory from the historic home.
