Gumbo is a big deal here in the Magnolia State, so it should come as no surprise that there’s a restaurant that specializes in the delicious dish. Located in Jackson, Gumbo Girl serves up several different kinds of gumbo. And while the gumbo is the specialty, it’s not all you’ll find on the menu – there are plenty of other tasty options. Take a look:
Gumbo Girl has been serving the best gumbo in Jackson since 2013.
But it’s definitely worth seeking out, especially if you’re a fan of gumbo. The eatery has been the recipient of Best of Jackson’s Best Gumbo award for several years now.
Other gumbo options include All Seafood Gumbo, Chicken and Sausage Gumbo, and Vegetarian Gumbo. Even better, you can get it by the bowl or in a to-go quart to take home. Oh, and did we mention you can add crab and lobster tails to your gumbo?
Gumbo isn’t the only way to satisfy your Cajun craving, though. The menu features plenty of other Cajun classics, including jambalaya, crawfish etouffée, red beans and rice, and more.
Cajun pots are also on the menu and a huge hit with customers. The hearty dish is described as a classic “junk pot” – complete with Cajun style turkey necks and perfectly seasoned potatoes, corn, and sausage.
The menu isn't the only thing that gives off Cajun vibes, though. There's also the eatery's appearance, which is reminiscent of the little restaurants that fill New Orleans.
So, are you ready to experience a taste of the Big Easy here in Mississippi? Gumbo Girl is open Thursday – Saturday, from 11 a.m. – 8 p.m. For more information, call (601) 790-0486. You can also visit the Gumbo Girl website or Facebook page.
