The Liberty Bell has got to be one of the nation’s most recognizable landmarks. However, in spite of its popularity, most are completely unaware that there are dozens of replicas throughout the U.S., Mississippi included. And though the bells are located miles from one another, they all originated in the same place – France.
Pennsylvania isn’t the only place you can catch a glimpse of the Liberty Bell, and that’s because each state has its own full-sized replica of the famous landmark!
Once completed, the replica bells were distributed throughout the nation. Every state and U.S. territory received one as a sign of thanks to citizens for their services in WWII.
The replica bells came with a few stipulations, like they must be free to access and should be displayed on state capitol grounds. In accordance with those stipulations, Mississippi’s replica Liberty Bell is in Jackson.
It’s hard to miss. Not only is it nestled on the front lawn of the Mississippi State Capitol, but it’s roughly 3 feet tall, just like the original Liberty Bell.
