There are several historic hotels in Mississippi that are believed to be haunted. One of the most notorious, though, is Monmouth Historic Inn. The residence-turned-inn boasts great accommodations, a beautiful garden, and a resident ghost, who has been known to check on guests in their rooms! It’s no wonder the historic inn has topped numerous “most haunted” lists!
Monmouth Historic Inn in Natchez isn’t just one of the most haunted hotels in Mississippi, but it’s one of the most haunted hotels in the entire South.
Quitman not only lived in Monmouth. He died in Monmouth, too. There’s some dispute as to the cause of death. Some say he was poisoned and killed by abolitionists, while other reports list the cause of death as National Hotel Disease.

According to many, Quitman has never left the mansion he once called home.
Word of the ghostly sightings has spread far and wide, leading to Monmouth landing a spot on Country Living’s list of the most haunted hotels in America.
