Don’t let the name fool you! New’s Restaurant in Meridian, Mississippi is in no way new to the restaurant game. It’s been around for decades. And while there are tons of reasons it’s endured all these years, the Mississippi restaurant’s commitment to family remains a key ingredient in its success.
Located in Meridian, New’s Restaurant is a classic Southern diner that’s known for its varied fare, freshly baked pies, and family atmosphere.
That’s not to say things haven’t changed over the years. New’s opened as a gas station.

Owner Hermon New and his wife, Hattie Jane, began selling burgers in 1942, as a last-ditch effort to save the gas station, which was struggling due to WWII-imposed gas rations.
On the menu, classic Southern dishes have a place alongside Gulf Coast seafood, tamales, and Cajun cuisine. There are burgers too, which makes sense – they are what put New’s on the map.
Everyone has their favorite dish; however, when it comes to desserts, the consensus is the same: The homemade pies are the best, and that’s probably because they’re baked fresh daily.
Today, the restaurant’s walls serve as a "hall of fame" of sorts, featuring photos of its most famous patrons, which, among others, include Sela Ward, Patrick Swayze, and The Temptations.

Serving up home-cooked food in a family setting, it’s plain to see why New’s has thrived throughout the years – everyone feels right at home!
