These 10 Hauntings in Mississippi Will Send Chills Down Your Spine

Sightings of a phantom horse drawn carriage as well as what sounds like someone tapping a cane have both been reported at this bed and breakfast. And, that’s not all. Two apparitions, a man and a woman, are said to haunt the property. The man is often seen in a bedroom, while the woman has been seen jumping from the roof and disappearing into thin air before hitting the ground.

The ghost of Hal, a former shipyard employee, is said to haunt a lonely stretch of this highway near Gautier. Hal’s family lived in New Orleans, and made plans to meet him at a Gautier motel on a Friday evening.

Once the entire family turned in for the night, Hal did the unthinkable – he used an axe to murder his wife, five children, and several other motel guests. After completing his heinous act, Hal wandered aimlessly down the highway at which point he was ran over and killed. To this day, witnesses say that Hal can still be seen wandering down the highway. This bridge received its name after a member of the Dalton Gang, Stuckey, was hung from its railings after it was discovered that he had been robbing and murdering unsuspecting travelers. Since Stuckey’s death, several witnesses have reported seeing his ghost carrying a lantern along the river. Others have reported seeing his ghost hanging from the bridge. Even more frightening, some locals have experienced up close encounters with the ghost of Stuckey. According to one resident, the angry apparition pushed him off the bridge.

While some believe the haunting of this road is the direct result of sacrifices made by a satanic cult, others think it has to do with a local devil-worshiping farmer who sold his soul to the devil and was, in turn, transformed into a demonic creature known as Goat Man.

Witnesses have reported all kinds of strange happenings, such as car engines turning off by themselves, a feeling of being watched, the appearance of shadowy figures, vehicles being shook, and handprints appearing on the vehicle. Other witnesses have actually had run-ins with Goat Man. The seven-foot tall figure with glowing eyes is said to carry a pitch fork, and is known to suddenly appear in front of stopped cars and stare at the occupants.

Among the many ghosts believed to haunt this home is that of a little girl, who is apparently searching for her mother. There have been several occasions where the little girl was heard desperately calling out, "Mama." Additionally, the young apparition has been known to nap in an upstairs bedroom, which is made obvious by the impression of her body appearing on the bed.

This dormitory is supposedly haunted by a ghost named Mary. Not only can Mary often be seen peering out of the top floor window looking for her lost love, but she has also been spotted sitting on the beds weeping…while their occupants are asleep.

Constructed in the 1840’s, this Vicksburg mansion is believed to be haunted by its former residents, the Klein Family. Visitors have reported seeing apparitions of Mr. and Mrs. Klein in the home, hearing the couple's children roam about the halls, and actually smelling Mr. Klein’s pipe. But the Kleins aren’t the only paranormal inhabitants. A young woman, also a former resident, committed suicide in the home and has been seen by several witnesses on the anniversary of her death.

There have been several reports of supernatural sightings at this Vicksburg property, which served as a hospital during the Civil War. The ghost of the home’s original owner as well as phantom soldiers, who most likely lost their lives in the home, have been spotted in the mansion. One soldier in particular, a Confederate with a missing leg, can often be found sitting in front of the fireplace.

Located down a long, narrow dirt road, visitors to this Warren County cemetery have reported hearing a low voice coming from nowhere in addition to an overwhelming sense of dread and a feeling of being chased by something.

This cemetery is the final resting place for dozens of Confederate soldiers and as such, there have been a lot of reports of unusual happenings, including sightings of phantom soldiers, an undeniable aroma of gun powder, and the sound of gunshots, canons, and other explosives usual associated with battle.
