You don’t need to spend a lot of money to have fun in Mississippi. These 11 activities are fun for everyone, and they don’t cost a dime.
1. Meander through some stunning ruins.
These 23 Corinthian columns are all that's left of the largest Greek Revival-style mansion built in the country in the antebellum era. It's on the National Register of Historic Places. You'll find it 10 miles southwest of Port Gibson.
2. Take a hike.
Mississippi has so many beautiful hiking spots, and most are free to access. Shown above is the Lakeshore Trail at the Chewalla Lake Recreation Area. This four-mile trail takes you around the peaceful, quiet lake.
3. Tour the Governor's Mansion.
The Governor's Mansion in Jackson is truly magnificent. Tour this beautiful, Greek-Revival style building Tuesday through Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. 300 East Capitol Street, Jackson.
4. Learn more about the history of Mississippi's government at the Old Capitol Museum.

5. Step back in time at the Causeyville General Store.
Please note, the Causeyville General Store has permanently closed.
This little store opened in 1895 and is one of the oldest in the state. Stop by during limited hours to walk through and get a taste of history.
6. Walk through historic Greenwood.

7. Witness works of art at the Lauren Rogers Museum of Art.
The Lauren Rogers Museum of Art is free to the public and brings in exhibitions from all time periods. Stop by Tuesday through Saturday from10:00 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.; Sunday 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m..
8. Stop by at the birthplace of America's favorite icon.
The Elvis Presley birthplace is still located in its current location and has been lovingly restored. It's open Monday through Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; Sunday 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. 306 Elvis Presley Drive, Tupelo.
9. Walk the grounds of William Faulkner's home, Rowan Oak.
William Faulkner and his family lived on this estate for more than 40 years. During that time, he wrote numerous works of fiction, including the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, "A Fable." Wander around the estate for free, or pay a small $5 admission fee to see the inside of the home. Find Rowan Oak just south of the square in Oxford.
10. Honor Mississippi's veterans and soldiers at the Mississippi Armed Forces Museum.
Mississippi Armed Forces Museum at Camp Shelby just got a new makeover and expansion! Visit Tuesday through Saturday 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. to see three new exhibits and 6,000 additional square feet. See artifacts, vehicles and weapons, and listen to the oral histories of some of the proud men and women who served our country.
11. Explore the Lower Mississippi River Museum and Riverfront Interpretive Site.
This fun, interactive museum in Vicksburg lets you explore the Mighty Mississippi in many ways. See what it's like to live and work on the river, explore its history and even tour the M/V Mississippi IV. Admission is free!
