Travelling back in time may be impossible, but you can get pretty close at French Camp Historic District. One of the most popular stops along the Natchez Trace Parkway, the quaint village is made up of several historic buildings that are open for touring. French Camp Historic District is located on the Natchez Trace Parkway at milepost 180.7, about 90 miles north of Jackson.
Brimming with history, French Camp was established in 1812. Today, it includes a museum, gift shop, restaurant, and bed and breakfast. Start your tour of the property at the Visitor's Center.
Aside from plenty of information on French Camp, the Visitor's Center includes the Log Cabin Gift Shop. The quaint shop sells a variety of locally-made products, such as sorghum molasses, honey mustard, sweet onion pecan dressing, and fresh baked bread.
Stop in the Alumni Museum for a closer look at the days of yesteryear. Housed in a historic dog trot cabin that dates back to 1885, it's filled with primitive antiques and memorabilia.
No tour of French Camp would be complete without a stop in the Council House Cafe. The menu may not be huge, but it's packed with delicious homemade options.
Among the bevy of soups, salads, and sandwiches that fill the menu, you'll find the famous "Big Ed's BLT." The massive sandwich includes bacon, lettuce, tomato, and the cafe's signature spicy garlic mayo.
